When you hear “Coffee before Cycling” you immediately think about Brian Megens. We’re proud to introduce this coffee lover and TT specialist as one of our ambassadors!
Maybe you already know Brian as the owner of Fixed Gear Coffee. If you ever cycled in the Netherlands near the Cauberg or Maastricht, you’ve probably took a coffee break at his inspirational shop. You may also know Brian from his pro cycling career at the Dutch Continental Cycling team Jo Piels or Rabobank Continental Cycling Team back in 2011 and 2012. In 2021, he was back on the bike at the professional level at the Dutch National Championships TT. On his Instagram everyone could follow his journey towards this race.
This year the main goal for Brian was to be on the podium of the Dutch National Championships TT. This is an ambitious goal for someone who works fulltime besides cycling. During the qualification race, in which the World Tour cyclists didn’t had to compete, Brian proved to everyone he was a challenger for the pro’s. During the qualification, he was the fastest cyclists. Brian started the National Championships with high hopes last week. Unfortunately, on the day of the nationals the legs just weren’t there, and he had problems with the heat. Nevertheless, Brian finished 12th overall and 3rd Elite without a contract. Still a great accomplishment for someone who got back at competitive cycling this year!
After the nationals, we can probably still find Brian on the road. He likes to ride in the hills of Limburg or crosses the border to Belgium. The best training area in his opinion is the Eifel in Germany, which is close to his home. When Brian isn’t cycling, you can find him at one of the 2 locations of Fixed Gear Coffee. Fixed Gear Coffee is “a place where the best of specialty coffee and cycling meet”. Get a cup of coffee, shop your cycling gear (they even sell the Dynamic products!) or simply get inspired. And don’t forget to say hi to Brian 😉
Brian’s bike care tips
When we ask Brian how he keeps his TT bike in excellent condition, he mentions he always cleans his chain, frame an handlebars. On his chain, he uses wax. His favorite is the Speed Potion Wax as this gives him some extra speed.
The Dirt Destroy is a favorite as well, he likes to use it to keep his shoes sparkling clean.
